about

Once during a sound check in Switzerland, bassist Karl Kronqvist tested his mic by singing "Red Sails in the Sunset," in Danish! Mia (the Happy Pals Business Manager for the Rapperswil region) speaks Danish and confirmed it.

Når Lygterne Tændes has a different story though. Rather than "My lover is out at sea and I hope he/she gets home safe," the story goes, "when I met you it was in the evening when the street lights were coming on, so now whenever I see the lights turn on I remember you."

There is also a Norwegian version called "Vi seiler mot lykken," and Bob Dylan used yet another set of lyrics on 2006's "Modern Times."

lyrics

---------------
English translation by Ethel Davey:

When the lights are lit on streets and roads
I walk alone and think of you.

We happened to meet in the lamplight.
You walked with me, and I took you in.

The lights burned warm when you came here,
But they were dark when you walked away.

When the lights are lit on streets and roads
I walk alone and think of you.
